This role involves attending field calls, diagnosing hardware and software issues, coordinating with the central dispatch team, and ensuring smooth installation and maintenance of server and networking devices. As a Server Engineer at Cybix, you will play a key role in providing best-in-class customer support and ensuring high availability of enterprise systems.
Role Summary
The Server Engineer will be responsible for field support related to server, storage, and networking equipment. You will receive tickets from the centralized dispatch team, visit customer locations, diagnose technical issues, arrange spare parts if required, and resolve incidents to closure. From installation and preventive maintenance to troubleshooting hardware components, this role requires excellent hands-on knowledge and customer communication skills.
Customer satisfaction is a critical part of this role, and you must be able to coordinate, communicate, and deliver solutions in a timely and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities
- Provide L1 field support for servers, storage devices, and networking equipment.
- Receive tickets from the central dispatch team with device details and preliminary diagnosis.
- Contact customers, schedule field visits, and analyze potential spare requirements.
- Collect and review server logs for issue diagnosis.
- Troubleshoot and resolve server issues to restore system functionality.
- Perform preventive maintenance during site visits.
Replace hardware components like:
- Hard Drives (HDD/SSD)
- Power Supplies
- Memory Modules (RAM)
- Motherboards
- RAID Controllers & other internal components
- Install and configure Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
- Perform server testing, cleaning, tuning, and full functional checks.
Installation Tasks
- Verify all required equipment is available at customer site.
- Perform complete server and hardware installation.
- Conduct post-installation validation and testing.
- Obtain customer sign-off upon completion.
Documentation & Customer Management
- Maintain incident records and update closure reports.
- Get customer sign-off after successful resolution.
- Coordinate with internal teams for spare parts and escalation.
Mandatory Technical Skills
To perform effectively in this role, you must have strong fundamentals and hands-on experience in:
- Diagnostic tools for HPE, Dell & Lenovo/IBM servers
- Server hardware troubleshooting and component replacement
- RAID configuration and management
- Operating system installation & troubleshooting (Windows Server/Linux)
- System health check-ups, software rebuilds, and diagnostics
- Understanding of server architecture, BIOS/firmware & network configurations
Desirable Skills (Good to Have)
- Knowledge of firewall, router & switch configuration
- Experience with WLAN controllers
- Troubleshooting and installation of storage devices (SAN/NAS)
